95% own a mobile phone

A study done by The University of Sydney in 2014 revealed that 95% of people experiencing homelessness in Sydney and Melbourne have a mobile phone.

47% use the internet to look for jobs

When asked about their reasons for using a mobile phone, 47% of the surveyed people responded they use the internet to look for a job.

That means, around 50,000 Australians would like help to find a job.

The Homeless Initiative

How The Project Started

The Homeless Initiative was started by the two young Australian software companies miiFile and iCompLii.

miiFile is developing apps around digital identity for individuals.

iCompLii provides compliance & management solutions for businesses, with a focus on managing employee and contractor details.

Our Vision

Aims of this project

Help the homeless to find a job

Help to find a job and get back on track.

Have the paperwork sorted

Help to manage all the important documents.

Connect homeless with employers

Help employers find the right candidates for their job.

Reduce homelessness

Help more people to find a job and have a home again.

Our Mission

How we can do this

#1

Digital Wallet

miiFile’s unique digital wallet is a perfect opportunity to enable the homeless to own and manage documents in a way never before possible.

We intend to offer a personal onboarding service for the homeless individuals who are looking to better their circumstances.

#2

Interact On The Streets

It is miiFile’s goal to interact on the streets, in crisis centres and to reach the homeless through volunteer avenues to assist with providing a free service for them, where they can store their identification and documents safely.

We believe this will enable them to be able to provide documentation easily when applying for government assistance, public housing and employment.

#3

Start in Capital Cities

Our aim is to commence in an Australian City, such as Brisbane and if we can successfully onboard a large group of individuals affected by homelessness, this will show acceptance of the initiative.

We would then roll out to other major cities and eventually all homeless people in Australia that are accepting.

Our Next Steps

We will start with a 1 year test run.

These are the exact next steps:

  1. Plan resources and time frame needed for a test run most likely in an Australian capital City.
  2. Create a Web page to explain the initiative.
  3. Create the GoFundMe crowdfunding page.
  4. Raise the needed funds of $110,000 via the crowdfunding page.
  5. Employ individuals in target areas to begin working with charity organisations, crisis centres, volunteer programs and other organisations, to be able to personally identify homeless individuals who would like to find a job and create a miiFile profile. Workers employed to assist in building profiles will work up to 25 hours per week for 1 year.
  6. Onboard as close to 2,000 homeless people, this will give miiFile enough data and proof of concept to assist homeless individuals to manage their affairs regardless of their technical capabilities.
  7. Provide a free-of-cost miiFile premium subscription to approximately 2,000 homeless individuals.
  8. The miiFile team will run Social Media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram for the purpose of reaching individuals, raising awareness and sharing updates with the general public who would like to part of the updates.
  9. We will also work with and source organisations that would like to contribute in various ways, including ways of reaching the homeless individuals and advocating the Homeless Initiative.
